Today’s retailers in Australia are at the start of a revolution that the EFTPOS/Credit card is going and going to be replaced by the mobile phone.
I do not believe that soon retailers will have a choice about this, today many people carry almost no cash and soon many will not have an EFTPOS/Credit card either, and as such, they will not carry a wallet either. It going to present a problem with them for receipts. It is already happening. It is a good thing for retailers as this English report here shows and it is well worth a read.
We have clients doing it now too.
With our direct receipt function a customer waves a smartphone over a dongle on your register and through the smartphone gets a copy of the receipt plus an advertising coupon if you wish to add it. This means your customer no longer has to get a receipt and the coupon as it is stored in their smartphone, which is accessible in a smartphone app. As the receipt is stored in the cloud (Microsoft Azure) you can set it to be marked as redeemed once used so it cannot be claimed twice.
Two points that many customers like is that doing this is much faster and unlike an email, they can keep their anonymity intact as no email address is required. If however, the retailer wants too they can link it directly to their customer VIP membership
What I like is that you can set up a customer satisfaction survey, plus you can now drill down to the specific transaction, so you can know when and where that customer was served.
As such you do not need to print out anything.
As the receipt is virtual, you can at no cost put in heaps of offers too as it cost nothing and takes no time.
If your customers press your logo on the receipt, the smartphone or computer will go to your website or Facebook page.
