ANZAC Day is more than just a public holiday in Australia. It's a day when we come together to remember the brave men and women who have served our country in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping missions. It's a day of reflection, gratitude, and respect.

 

My Connection

I've always held a special place in my heart for ANZAC Day. I remember my Dad, a World War II veteran who fought in New Guinea in WW2, taking me to the Dawn Service, and I saw him march when I was a kid. I remember him marching in the unit; sadly, I doubt any of them are still with us. Many years later, I remember my aunty looking with me at the march, saying even the Korean War veterans look old. 

Do you remember this photo that went viral a few years back?

She was 99 years old then and stated it would be her last march.

Windows and receipt printers problems

POS SOFTWARE

There has been an ongoing problem with Windows and receipt printers for months. We have been told it is fixed, but we do not believe it as it keeps coming back in new forms. So far, we have identified it in Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft must be working in that space, and they are not testing it properly as receipt printers keep failing but with different causes. It looks like something in their test program needs updating.

If you get this error with your receipt printer that it stops working, we can fix it quickly.

Floods are hitting support

POS SOFTWARE

We are now facing one of these one-in-200-year flood events in central Victoria, parts of NSW and Tasmania. This is clogging up support.

Thankfully, most people have paid attention to the recent newsletter we sent out about backups. As long as you have a valid backup, you should be right and do not worry; we have over 40 years gotten very used to flood problems.

If you have an online backup, it is better. In the past, we have had to download an online backup, run many reports in our support office, and then send them back to the affected people. If you have not yet set up our free online backup system, I suggest you do so ASAP.

Interesting, unlike most floods we have faced, the problem today is not water damage but the disruption to the supply lines. Today if a transport company has a problem delivering, they do not try to fix it but move on to the next job and leave the merchant without stock.

Of course, knowing the full extent of the loss will take time.

Software support over the next two days

Our office will be open on skeleton staff. As today is the Queen's National Day of Mourning, support will be done on our after-hours numbers today.

Tomorrow is a Victorian Public holiday, the "Friday before the Grand Final". Help will be as usual. The phones will be diverted to our interstate support bays.

ANZAC Day support

For over 100 years, “ANZAC Day” has been observed in Australia, becoming our honoured and sacred institution. I can remember, as a kid, going with my dad. He enjoyed meeting up with the guys from his WW2 unit. They fought in the Lae area of New Guinea from Jan 45. I doubt any of them are with us now. 

Here is a famous picture of one such veteran marching that took the internet by storm. No one knows who he is, but we all feel his pain.

 

Our office will be closed, but our after-hours and emergency support will be running non-stop throughout ANZAC Day today. It is available both for urgent and standard calls.

Please do not ring me unless it is urgent as I want the day off with my kid, ring Micahel instead. I will be back on Tuesday.

Melbourne joins Sydney in lockdown

POS SOFTWARE

Now we have another five-day lockdown. Currently, I reckon over half our clients are under Lockdown.   If you are under Lockdown, we know how you feel as most of us in POS Solutions are now on our 5th Lockdown.

Software support will be as usual 24 x 7 by phone, email and online even though our Melbourne office is now closed.

Well, the expression "Business as usual" isn't an expression I would use this year. Still, it seems right here.

We know that the period between Christmas and New Year is a crucial trading period for our clients. 

So for us, it will be "Business as usual."

We have a Public holiday today here - AFL Grand Final

Today it's a public holiday in Victoria. You will find our support will be as good as usual today.  

It has been as good as a year as we could get considering what has happened.  As a steadfast blue Carlton supporter, I was pleased with my team improvement. Tomorrow I think we will see Richmond as stronger, but either could do it. So I will be watching just for the game. It is frustrating that we have two Victorian teams in the Grand Final, and we have to watch on TV.  We cannot even host a family or friends get together to watch the game. Detail here. Queenslanders, I suggest you treat yourself to history if you can get out there. 

Please, if you can avoid using support at the actual game time itself, our guys on support would appreciate it. But if you have to call, they are available.

Support today

Well, this is it guys, the day that we have been waiting for a year.   

Support will be as usual over the period, and hopefully, you will not need it.  If you can avoid using support over the game time, I am sure our guys on support would appreciate it, but if you have to call, they are available.

It has been a good season. I thought that Brisbane could get into the Grand Final as looking at their play and GWS, I thought they were better but no.

Still as a faithful blue Carlton supporter, I am not picking sides this year although I think Richmond, is the team to beat.  I am just hoping for a good game. I hope we get it.
