Snap your own Product Photography part two.

The responses to my post from yesterday surprised me.

As I wrote yesterday, a modern business that uses POS software and e-commerce sometimes must show its products visually today. 

The cheapest and easiest way to do it is to do it yourself. Many individuals mistakenly believe that such product photography is expensive. It is not. Today making good product photos is simple and affordable with the modern smartphones that most of you own. All it needs is a few low-cost items that you can buy for less than $30 in total.

After facing some questions, I decided to prove my point. I went to my house's laundry room and placed a few cardboard sheets in my home in the corner. Here is what it looked like.

After that, I took two items off my desk. Then put them on the cardboard. I stood before them to block the direct sun's rays from the window and took a few pictures. I then quickly edited them using the free app on my smartphone. Here is the result

They aren't perfect to a T, but they're perfect for many purposes because there's nothing wrong with them. 

They would have been perfect with a tripod, a larger sheet of cardboard, and a sheet over the window to block the sun's direct rays properly. 

This is how many small businesses currently operate. This small business owner shows you how she creates stunning product images on YouTube using her smartphone.

 

It's worth looking at how she does it because it's clear that she is NOT a professional photographer and does an excellent job.

 

Preparation

The next step is to get ready for the photo shoot once you have all the necessary tools. She selects a background appropriate for the tone and complements the product.

Set up the light

She arranges her product so that its best features are highlighted.

Taking the Pictures

> Try different perspectives and angles to see which works best when taking pictures.

> Ensure the product is the main focus.

> Pay attention to shadows. You do not want shadows.

> As taking a lot of pictures costs nothing, take a lot. You can select the best one later.

Final note

Producing high-quality product images can be free. So, why not give it a go and see how it goes?

Do your staff have the information they need in your store?

If they have a current sales report of what is moving now, they can do better. Just moving stock that sells well into a prominent position is a proven method of increasing. Are Your Prices Right, how to quickly check.

With all the price changes people are having now, this will help check your prices to see whether they are right. It only takes a minute.

In your cash register reports> Stock > Quantity On Hand and Price check.

Now I am assuming that your stock levels are correct here. If they are not, then you would use the line immediately below. Put in date since in the stock activity. 

Here I picked tobacco but generally, you use it by supplier here.

Now out comes a report showing the items, cost, the quantity on hand, and the retail price.

Now you can check the details.

Retail Integrated card category

POS SOFTWARE

Category analysis in retail is when you group similar stock items together into categories so they can be compared against each other. It is the main retail management tool used today.

The idea is that many customers come into a shop with a certain category of product in mind for example they want a comic or a birthday card but they don't know exactly. They don't care who the supplier of the card is John Sands, Hallmark, Artwrap etc.

What you need to do is identify what the customer is looking for so you can satisfy them.

Once you do buy something they often will buy something else too.

That is all well and good but category analysis has been hampered by the lack of data. Since most of our clients have too large a range of stock to do the job themselves with the resources. Even putting this aside, it is very hard to do it since many products are not advertised by the retailer.

That is why they look at the suppliers to do it. Unfortunately too many suppliers have been unable or unwilling to supply these categories.

Still magazine suppliers did come together to put their products into category system called MPA. It was done originally for advertisers but it was snapped up by retailers too. Those that use it have found that their sales went up if only as it made the display more organized.

Following the success in the magazine companies, we have been attempting to reestablish this in the card industry. Since in many shops the cards are not integrated now, we think it would have a better effect here then what we have seen in magazine sections.

For this reason we have had numerous telephone calls, emails and meeting between us and many of the card companies in an attempt to get them all to use an integrated system too.

In the current integrated card category system, the cards are divided up into the following categories

B2-Female
B3-Male
B4-Juvenile
B5-Birthday
BC-Birth
C -Convalescent or Get Well
E -Easter
EC-Engagement
FD-Father
GB–Gift Bags/Boxes
M -Greeting Card

WR–Wrapping Paper
XC-Calendar

XS-Christmas Special
