Mon, 02/11/2020 Why now you need to take business photos?

You could use an image like this in your POS Software, Staff would appreciate when searching for a stock item an image.

However you need to promote your business. The fact is that the cheapest (it's free), most effective, quickest, and the best way today is online on Social Media.

Wed, 04/11/2020 Use a Virtual Background in your Video Conferencing

Right now, almost everyone is doing some online conferencing.

Almost overnight, video conferencing services have become a must, used by everyone. In business today, it is practically a necessity. I use it for family and business meetings. It has often replaced telephone calls as it's much easier to discuss something when we can see it.

Here are some questions.

Fri, 06/11/2020 My thoughts on retail Christmas in 2020?

Everyone is so relieved in retail that we are open for business with most retail staff returning. So no-one, unlike past years, has given us their predictions. It's so hard as it is so different this year from anything we have experienced.

My thoughts, the buying public is not spending their money on concerts, restaurants, holidays, cars, etc.

Many still have Jobkeeper.

The public has money, they are cashed up.

The question is, what are they going to do with this cash?

Sat, 07/11/2020 Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out

In business, success is not a day work. Even if you make significant decisions, you need continuous small and incremental work to get it to work.

A 1% improvement a week alone will in a year give you a dramatic result.

Mon, 09/11/2020 POS Hardware on sale now: scanners, printers and scales

The sale of POS Hardware such as scanners, printers, and scales is now on. What is happening is that importers of such equipment have been sitting on stock. Less has moved then expected.  They also know that few new sales are coming till mid-January. So they are ringing us up and telling us that they are doing deals to move stock now to raise funds.

So if you are thinking of upgrading your Point of Sale equipment, now is an excellent time.

Tue, 10/11/2020 Retail COVID check-in, the situation now

With COVID, many businesses have found that they need to keep some details of a visitor who stays for more than XXX minutes. The details and the times vary in different states and the category of business. The problem in retail shops is they often do not know whether someone falls into this category.  So some are putting COVID tracking forms on their front door for people to scan.

Wed, 11/11/2020 How you can get in real-time your inventory information in seconds

Here is how by using real-time inventory management. This is so you can get many such benefits, such as having the optimal amount of stock in your shop.

Say a rep is in your shop or on the phone, and you want to discuss your inventory! They have a good overview of their product overall but what they need to know is your shop situation? The odds are that they like you have much to do, so you need to find the answers immediately.

Thu, 12/11/2020 Notes on this year's software and support survey

It measures the effectiveness and quality of our services. It takes only a few minutes to complete.

If you have used our services this year, please contribute.

Fri, 13/11/2020 See the COVID-19 financial impact in your area

The recent cuts in JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments are having an immediate impact on Australian family budgets.

You can see it here on this website.

Halfway down, there is a map. Put in the search <your postcode>

Mon, 16/11/2020 Get a Free: St John Ambulance First Aid Course with Certificate

In Australia, every organisation must have a work safe officer.

I have had a client after an employee collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital. He suddenly found himself this officer and having to show that he knew and had done things.

Mon, 16/11/2020 Bank outage on now

It seems to be some problems with the banks now. At first, we thought it was only CBA, but it appears when I talk to our support that a few other banks like NAB are also affected. It's one of those things that we cannot do anything about but wait out.

Tue, 17/11/2020 Are you prepared? Next month is the biggest retail event ever.

This Christmas is expected (hoped) will be the biggest retail event in Australia ever,

So here are some tips for this holiday season from a retail expert talks that I attended and from what is being said around the traps. Some of these are very relevant to my clients.

1) Show your trading hours

Many shops have changed their trading hours. If you are not open, the public may not be aware of when you are open.

Wed, 18/11/2020 Improve your customer experience by serving them faster?

Today much of the time taken to process a transaction is independent of the point of sale software.

Greet a customer with a friendly smile.
Say hello.
Process the transaction
The cash handling or EFTPOS
Goodbyes are said,
The customer collects the goods and goes.

The industry standard is now about 40 seconds a transaction plus three seconds for each item scanned.

So if a customer is buying three items, the time is about 40 seconds plus three items in their basket at 3 seconds each, so it's about 50 seconds.

Thu, 19/11/2020 Display System (KDS) are rapidly replacing printed picking slips

A warehouse or kitchen in a restaurant is often hot, dirty, and greasy places.  Environments that are not good for computers. What used to happen is that we would put in a receipt printer in such areas. The idea being is that someone would take the packing slip from the printer. Then put it on a rack for someone else to grab it and process it.

Mon, 23/11/2020 Labeling Bestsellers

Here is a step by step method which works to sell more which is very easy to do with our software.

-Get some signs in red with the notation "Bestseller". Above are some that a pharmacy got. If you cannot get them, print a few signs with your printer. Make sure that it's in red.

-In your POS Software go to

Go to Register reports.

Tue, 24/11/2020 Its time to consider late-payment fees, your decision

A late-payment policy is causing problems now.

They have always been a sore point at the best of times. Many have been waving the fee for the duration of this crisis. Some have asked people to contact them to discuss it on an individual basis.  Let face it people have lost jobs and many have suffered a major loss of income. Now not the time to act heartless.

Wed, 25/11/2020 Smarter, more responsible, safer, and better queuing

Shoppers are put off your store if they see a lengthy queue, particularly if it's not moving fast. This is worse now as Australian standards need us to put floor markings every 1.5 metres where customers queue

Thu, 26/11/2020 Do you need to do an EFTpos Reconciliation?

Often you want to figure out what is going on, even if you are sure it's right. Sometimes, you need to determine that it is correct.

So if you are looking to reconcile your EFTPOS/credit payment to the banks, if so, what you find is you are reconciling your daily sales, yet many of the bank fees are monthly figures. As such, the totals will not match.

Well, here is a report that can help you.

You will find it here marked in red.

Thu, 26/11/2020 Black Friday 2020

This Friday it is "Black Friday", officially this is the start of the Christmas shopping season.

Last year's spending on Black Friday shot up 69 percent on the previous year.

Looking at the Google trends, it looks that public interest I about the same this year as last year.

Fri, 27/11/2020 Our point-of-sale system is brilliant in reducing labour costs!

Here is one example.

In retail today, you need to invest your time in meeting your consumer desires.

When you are doing this, you must plan the roster by need. It is better to design this roster for the shop business needs and make changes for the business/staff realities later. You should do it as far ahead as possible as this gives everyone associated with the shop time to plan.

Our software has a roster system available free.

Mon, 30/11/2020 Your debtor situation now in your business

My previous post on late-payment fees brought up a few inquiries.

What is now the debt situation now in the business compared to last year?

Well, the quickest way is to go into register reports > customers trial balance.

Put in a date, you can pick any date you want, like I put a date most than three (3) years ago.

Use the date yesterday a year ago. Use the age periods as current, 30, 60, and 90 days.

Mon, 30/11/2020 Our Black-Friday sales will continue

It was Black Friday.

Many of our suppliers now see this as their final chance to move the retail point of sale equipment before Christmas comes. So they decided to offer some outstanding offers.
